Mittwoch 10. Februar 2010 19:00 - 21:00 [IG 1.314 Eisenhower-Raum (nur ]
Veranstalter: Cornelia Goethe Centrum
Ort: IG 1.314 Eisenhower-Raum (nur für Einzeltermine und nach Genehmigung, für max. 32 Tischplätze)
This paper examines how the human rights discourse constructs "women" vis-à-vis "tribal-ism" through an analysis of the meaning and implication of human rights documents on "hon-our killings." Engaging transnational feminist theories (including co-formations of gender, race, ethnicity, and postcoloniality) the paper addresses how human rights and feminist argu-ments about universal rights for women end up re-invigorating primordial-biological notions that characterize tribal identity at the cusp of the 20th and 21st centuries. The paper traces how older colonial notions of tribalism re-emerge in transnational discourse on human rights to frame the links between tribal ways, gender relations in Baloch "tribal" communities, and Pakistani women's social condition.
